Description and other notes:
Mt. Diablo is one of the highest peaks in the Bay Area with its 3849 feet. The rumor is that during a clear day it has the best visibility in the world, after Mt. Kilimanjaro, but nobody can confirm this statement. Nevertheless, the view from the top is one of the best in the Bay Area. You can meet many people who will tell you that they saw Sierra Nevada from the summit. The best time to hike Mount Diablo is late spring, after the rainy season, when all grass is green and there are many colorful flowers. If you want a good day hike, you can choose a route that goes on all 5 northern peaks. This route is: Mitchell Canyon Trail Head (~590 ft elev.) -> Murchio Rd -> Clayton Oaks Rd -> Springs Trail -> Olympia Trail -> East Trail -> Mt. Olympia (2946 ft) -> North Peak Trail -> North Peak (3557 ft) -> Mt. Diablo (3849 ft) -> Bald Ridge Trail -> Eagle Peak Trail -> Eagle Peak (2369 ft) -> Twin Peaks (1733 ft) -> Mitchell Rock Trail -> Mitchell Canyon Trail Head. This is a tough hike. Expect the whole hike to take up to 6 hours (excluding driving). Experienced hikers and very fit beginners should have no problem finishing it. A good map of the park can be seen at
